US equity indices were slightly higher on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve held its rates unchanged, as largely expected, ahead of earnings results from major AI players after the closing bell. The S&P and the Dow were marginally higher after the former breached the 7,000 threshold for the first time in history, and strong performances for chip producers lifted the Nasdaq 100 by 0.4%. The Fed paused its cutting cycle and indicated it sees risks to both rising inflation and unemployment, maintaining market bets of two cuts this year. Texas Instruments soared 8% after beating Wall Street estimates, supporting Micron and Intel to jump between 6% and 12%, also supported by strong orders for ASML. In turn, Microsoft, Meta, and Tesla were muted ahead of their results publishing after the bell. Outside tech, Starbucks jumped 6% and AT&T rose 5% following their results.
