India’s BSE Sensex lost further ground to close about 1.3% down at 82,180.5 on Tuesday, the lowest since mid-October, in a broad-based sell-off due to resurfacing trade tensions and macro uncertainty. A global risk-off sentiment prevailed following US President Donald Trump’s 10% tariff threat on eight European nations over the Greenland dispute. Continued FII outflows and ongoing tepid corporate earnings also continued to weigh on investor sentiment. Bajaj Finance (-4.1%), Eternal (-3.6%), Sun Pharma (-3.1%), IndiGo (-3.1%), Asian Paints (-2.8%), Trent (-2.8%) and Bajaj Finserv (-2.8%) were among the major drags. HDFC Bank was the only gainer, rising 0.4%, after announcing plans to disburse INR 20 crore under the FY26 edition of the Parivartan Startup Grants programme for supporting social impact-driven innovations.
