The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, declined for a third session on Wednesday, dropping nearly 3% to its lowest since July last year at 1,776 points, mainly pressured by the bigger-size segment. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, extended losses for the tenth day, slipping 4.6% to 2,878 points; and the supramax index fell 18 points to 993 points. Conversely, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose about 1% to 1,317 points.
